Are Data Needed For All IEP Decisions?

Data Needed for IEPs

Many people are frustrated by data. That is why we at IEPHELP.COM try so hard to make data understandable. Keep in mind that data are no more than pieces of information

One of the most difficult things to do, when developing IEPs, is making informed decisions based on data.

Let me ask you to look at the list below. Can you tell me which of the following requires the use of data when making IEP decisions?

  • Annual Reviews and continued need for services

  • AT (Assistive Technology) needs

  • Progress reports

  • Evaluations/reevaluations

  • Determination of eligibility

  • Writing goals/objectives

  • PLAAFPS (Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance Skills) Also known as PLEPs or PLOPs

  • Speech services

  • LRE (Least Restrictive Environment)

  • OT (Occupational Therapy)

  • Determination of diploma program

  • Accommodations

  • How much time to provide for extended time

  • ESY (Extended School Year)

  • Any other IEP decision

The answer is that all require the use of data to make informed decisions. Our goal is to help you make sense of data in order to make better educational decisions for your child.
